The Ordinary Special of the month!

I am an e-mail addict, get me out of here! -written & posted by tim i gurung June 2009

The first thing I do when I come to my office is to switch on the computer and check e-mail. Inevitably, replying all the e-mails will be of my 1st priority and also deleting all the junk mails at the same time. It will also give me some general idea of what tasks are needed to be done on that particular day! The next job will be start firing e-mails to my staff requesting for details that I do not already have and wait for the replies in earnest.

Since I use e-mail for almost 99% of the correspondence with my business associates, sometime I almost forgot the importance and effect of actual humanly touch also in business and pretend like nothing else matter. Even the use of fax is becoming a hassle now. And frankly speaking, without a proper e-mail address, you will not even make to the mailing list these days.

My e-mail file remains open almost all the time for obvious reason and the system rechecks for new mails in every five minutes. Whenever there is any new mail, whatever I might have been doing that time, I must see and reply it immediately. I just can not wait. I also have a terrible habit of looking at my computer screen repeatedly for new e-mails while I am tending other works. I also have an unusual tendency of non-stop clicking on my computer to make sure that the system is working properly. It sounds like a childish act but I can say with confidence that I am not alone!

Sometime, I am also bit worried as this can be a serious problem for me. Just recently my e-mail system was broken down for two days. I was so annoyed and frustrated that I nearly ended up making everyone upset in the whole office. My wife also nearly kicked me out of the office and also from home. I definitely learnt my lesson and also at the same time, got my revenge back by kicking the hosting company out of my site. But trust me! That was really a close call.

The other aspect of e-mail that I really hate the most is the spammers. Almost 60-70% of my e-mail is spam and the most irritating one is the repeaters, who just kept sending it again and again, almost nonstop! I do not like it at all, but there is not much I can do about it. It seems there are a lot of people in this world with nothing good to do. That is at least what I think. Sometime, it became so upsetting that you just want to grab his throat and stifle him to death right there. Please do not get me wrong! It is just the expression, nothing more!

E-mail is a true phenomena and it has been a godsend gift to us! It helps make our live much easier now than before. However, sometime we totally do forget things that are more important in life than being addicted to e-mail and ended up not only neglecting them but also completely losing it forever. We became so obsessed with those new toys that we almost forgot about ourselves. We just should not let it control our daily life. End of the day, it is just an e-mail. We tend to always forget that!
